60 paul watts from leeds: very great program didnt really get it when i was a kid but my nana is from the region so the dialect was bang on only wish yesterday would put it on twice a day like they do with other programs last one tommorow i think hope they rerun it as missed most of first series
59 Elaine Ridings from Tredegar, S Wales: I am currently enjoying the re-runs of When the Boat Comes In on Yesterday. What a fantastic series. The Seatons are all wonderful characters. Jack Ford is such a fantastic character, superbly played by James Bolam. Sheer pleasure to watch.
58 Kevin Harper from northampton: what a fantastic way to spend watching tv for an hours entertainment, should be two hours as my wife Jenny says, this series really draws you in,everything is believable, should be repeated constantly, top class drama.
57 Dave Cummings from Liverpool Liverpool: This great social-political drama would NEVER hit the mainstream terristrial channels today. I watched it as a 11 year old lad, with my dad in 1976 I could not grasp the undertones the, but I do now...! Great drama
ps the same goes for Upstairs Downstairs
56 gloria brunskill from newcastle upon tyne: i seen when the boat comes in years ago and my friend told me it was back on tv as i had not seen her for a long time i turnd in at 4pm this week just to find it was the last one can you repeat it again please it is a great show james bolam is a great actor well done james we should have more shows like this love it
55 Archie Fulton from Ayrshire,Scotland: Great drama about a time we should never forget. The Actors should be applauded for showing us how life was in a pivotal historic age and how it changed Britain and society.
Great characters,superbly acted,great series
54 Chris & Anne from Redruth, Cornwall: We enjoyed the series so much on yesterday when is it on again ? Fantastic acting especially jean heywood & james garbutt.
53 valerie barber from kent: I have jus watched When the Boat Comes in on Yesterday. It was such a great story and my favourite characters were bella and Tom and of course Jack Ford. I loved the first series and remembered the part where Jack brings home all the food he poached. I hated the ending though.
52 Shirley Davies from Swansea: The series was magnificent and a realistic representation of economic and political life between the wars. What a pity that so many interesting plot lines were left undeveloped particulalry between series 3 and 4. Whatever happened to the Seatons. Should they have disappeared?
51 Teresa Keech from Luton,Bedfordshire.: What a fantastic show this is. we have been watching the re-run on sky channel "yesterday".This show deserves to be shown on prime tv channelwe would sit through it all over again. James Bolan acts the part of Jack Ford superbly. You really believe he is that character.
50 Angie from west midlands: I have loving memories of this brilliant series. First time I ever watched it, was with my late Nan, she herself a Geordie. It was such a wonderful thing we shared together and we couldn't wait for the week to pass, to watch the next one. Yesterday are reshowing it and it has nearly finished it's last series it ever made.
49 elizabeth wallace from barnsley: best programe on the tely why can't they put these programes on at night because it is much better then all the sex and violence programes that we have to suffer.
48 jim unsworth from liverpool: watching it the second time around, what strikes me is that that the whole generation was traumatised from the war. fine scipts, strong charcters. My favourite moment is where Jack tells the Boat Owner Doughty, that his "Swiss"contact has had to leave to the pub to judge a Yodeling Competition. Being and old Scouse Soldier, it cracked me up. All the actors are superb, but James Bolam IS Jack Ford. I would love to have a bit of crack with him!!
47 Sue from bournemouth: Am loving the re run just wish they were on at a regular time, I end up missing some of the episodes.
46 vee butcher from brighton: loved seeing this again on yesterday shame they dont make great dramas like this any more too much reality tv on now thers loads more i would love to watch like this so please can we see some more of these great dramas
45 Margaret Kelly from Northampton: One of the best dramas I have seen on TV for a long time. James Bolam is superbly cast as Jack Ford. I hope they repeat the whole series again as I missed the first episode when he was in the war? which is often referred to in later episodes.
44 Meryl from Newport, South Wales: Absolutely great to have something enjoyable to watch. Don't want to miss a minute let alone an episode, thank goodness for Catch Up TV. Saw it 1st time round enjoyed it then & still enjoying it now, superb! Thank you to whoever had the insight to put this back on.
43 sue holmes from Southampton: We all watched it in the 1970's as a family and we loved it. I think it is the best TV series ever made in the UK. The script, the acting and above all the creation of Jack Ford by James Bolan. None of them dated. What a treat.
42 Hazel Vaughan from South Yorkshire: Been watching this great programme on Yesterday. I can't stop singing the title song! It was (and still is) a great series and I can't bear to miss an episode. I remember it on the television when I was growing up but it's nice to see it again as I couldn't remember everything that happened so long ago. Brilliant acting from brilliant actors!
41 Pamela Berry from Manchester: Absolutely fantastic watching this again. My husband records it so that we can watch it during the evening when I have got in from work. It would be great if they could do an update using the same actors as they are now.
40 Diana Watson Daniels from Newcastle, now in Cumbria: Excellent drama, brings back fabulous memories for me.James Bolam and Jennifer are fab actors
39 R McNae from Ayr: Fantastic cast and storylines
38 linda johnson from ulverston, cumbria: watched the series as a kid first time round, really addicted to it again, wonderful to see truely great drama again. all the cast are great actors, but James Bolam steals it for me.
37 Megan from Teignmouth: Just found this website - as soon as I realised this superb show was being shown on Yesterday, I have tried not to miss an episode. I agree with all, such superior characters and storylines, I feel transported to those very hard times, even though I'm a southern softie. Best thing on TV just now (and probably for a long time to come). Love it! I'd also love to see Family at War and Sam.
36 Janet Thomas from Gloucester: I love the programme, but have missed quite a bit of it, so am going to get the books. Never saw it first time around, must have been busy working, but now retired. I think the social history of that time is so important to keep alive.
35 jo from worksop: i love this show really enjoying the re runs, i was in canada when the first series ran, love it when Jack says "bonny lad"
34 peter townend from barnsley: i am currently watching the re-runs of the series, its well acted by a superb set of actors, nothing changes with time like the rich bellends who stil rule england sadly
33 juliancornick from bristol: i think its a marvellous programme, nostalgic memories of the seventies[when it was aired]and some goodsocial realism of the working class and conditions of the era.
32 elaine from rhondda cynon taff: My husband and I are really enjoying the reruns on yesterday. 2010 hasnt been a great year so far for us. But the show has helped us escape. Jack ford is a really great character and James Bolam plays him so well, Jessie Seaton is also great and all the cast and crew. The storylines are great and it feels like you are transported back with the show we are so grateful yesterday has rerun all the episodes it is a real treat for us.
31 corinne dunn from cumbria: Always loved When the boat comes in - cannot resist watching every day. James Bolam is superb, along with all the other actors - well done! More, more, more!
30 DAVE BROWN from S.YORKS EX NORTH SHIELDS: Fabulous acting - Gripping to watch. Wish we still made them as good these days.
Well done all the cast!!
29 Perri from Newport: Loving every minute of When the Boat Comes In on Yesterday, I really don't want the series to end!Watched the original thought it would be dated! but it's not, it's fab,
28 Corinne Dunn from Cumbria: I am addicted hook-line-and-sinker to When the Boat comes in! Thankyou for the re-run. James Bolan can rock my boat - any day!!
27 Di Willis from Gloucester: Wonderful programme! I was so lucky that I found it just by chance on Yesterday and am absolutely hooked as I was when it was first shown! So much better than all the rubbish we tend to get nowadays! And a wonderful cast !
26 Patricia from Tyne and Wear: This is a brilliant show. Much better than todays soaps James Bolam is a fine actor
25 irene anderson from sunderland: Every bit as great as first time round. Great acting all round.
24 len chadwick from manchester: I love it,im 52 saw it the first time around.geordies salt of the earth, superb acting bolam jameson ,all of you, thank you
23 Joan from Sheffield: Watched the whole series as a young married mum and now watching again 34 years later! I remember seeing an add in local paper (selling furniture I think) saying to contact any time except Thursday 8-9pm. This was of course in the days before video recorders and was when WTBCI was shown. I am sure it would be just as popular now if it was on channel 4 or bbc2.
22 chris from london: I was about 12 when it first came out. My parents were lower middle class and thought the series was all a bit too socialist so I never watched it. Now I'm 46 and unemployable so when it came on the TV on Yesterday I thought I'd watch it. I'm finding it hypnotising, it's the highlight of my pathetic existence. What's noticeable is its slower pace compared to modern dramas, I find it soothing to watch but despite the sedate pace the hour seems to fly past.
I really need to find out what Jack Ford was up to in Murmansk, not sure if he was a mercenary or there in his role as a British Army soldier.
Greetings to all other fans of WTBCI !
21 simon from conisbrough: fantastic, great acting great script, and reminds me of the yorkshire mining village my family were from.
20 ger from wicklow, Ireland: a great series, remember it as a kid, because of the theme music mainly, but watching it now every afternoon on Yesterday
19 mr pat rafferty from warwick cv34 5te: im 78 and it still brings a lump in my throat ,second time around,
18 Denise from Manchester: I have just started watching the re-runs on Yesterday. Rush home from work to watch such a great drama. Better than any soaps they churn out these days.
17 Steve B from Hereford: I'm reluctant to admit it but I'm addicted to watching the afternoon re-runs currently on Yesterday. Fine scripts and top drawer acting give the lie to the quality of so many modern tv dramas. James Bolam is outstanding. Thirty years on the series remains a gripping must-watch.
16 John from Rotherham: Just working our way through the box set - It is so good to see a quality drama that was made in Britain, we used to be the masters at it, now all the good stuff comes from the States.
15 Angie from Bedfordshire: 14/1/10 Reruns now showing on Yesterday - channel 12
14 Nick from Market Harborough: I watched all of these back in 1975/6 when they were first aired and I was hooked. It made such a lasting impression on me that 30 years later I bought a boxed set of them. This and the other great Geordie classic, "Our Friends in the North" really sum up the British working class, dodgy politics and the general corruption that still exist today. But as a Scot, I would be expected to be militant wouldn't I ? Well done!
13 Norma Howlett from ex Geordie living in NZ since 1968: whenever I get homesick and I still do after 41years I watch a session of this great program and feel at home again --bonny lads.
12 Beccy Williams from Brum: I watched the entire 4 series with my mum recently, after remembering it as a child in the 70's. James Bolam is still a class act, but for me the real star was Edward Wilson who played Billy Seaton with such warmth, he totally bowled me over!
Shame the Jarrow marches were never directly referred to, but as a document of northern working class life in the 1920's, no other drama comes close.
11 richard from canvey island: me & my partner used to watch 1 or 2 a night until we had watched the whole box set great viewing nothing on telly like it these days R
10 Lee Nicholson from Middlesbrough: This amazing show, has stood the test of time. Like others have said, the DVD boxset is the way to go. I've just finished watching it, and could very easily re-watch it all again. Many people complain about the 4th series, buts it's still great tv.
9 jason reid from newcastle: i appeared in a couple of episodes when i was about 3 years old, champion programme, wish i could find the episodes i was in.
8 david a cheeseman from bournemouth: the best drama ever, I still watch it from start to finish then i start all over again I never get tired of watching this great drama.
7 gary Slinn from Northampton: Used to watch it mornings on UK Gold whilst in Portugal and would not let the beach party depart until i had watched it. I was not popular but i was the driver. Now purchased it as a complete box set.
6 Charlotte from Newcastle: There were several short stories written with the same characters from When the Boat Comes in.
They have never been made into television. The official James Mitchell website is bringing it out in installments.
5 Chris Waywell from Lancashire: What a great dvd box set £20 Widnes from market. My wife and I watched an hours episode every night and became addicted to it and didn't want it to end. Jack the lad Ford (James Bolam) is utterly fantastic in this series and it was nice to see actors like Corries Fred Elliot making an appearance as well as alfie bass. I would fully recommend it to anyone over 40.
4 nancy beer from longframlington: have waited many years for re-runs, finally got the complete set on dvd for christmas .every bit as brilliant as i remembered!even my sceptical west country husband is now hooked, we are only half way through.worth every penny of the £54 it cost from amazon.
3 jay miles from london: fantastic. Would love to see re-runs. good old fashioned time and fun. Would love to see it again.
2 Allen Forster from Cornwall GB: The moment in the swish Newcastle hotel where Sgt Jack Ford (James Bolam) seduced the rich lady. James Bolam the finest English actor ever. Any the man (name unknown) who played Jessie's dad, he was the spitting image of my late grandfather who I only saw in a photograph.
Allen Forster.
1 Mary Burnside from Ayr: Marvellous programme but why oh why do we never get any re-runs on tv?
