52 Alex Dow from Edinburgh: To Aileen Cairns. David McCallum was almost certainly born in Glasgow 1933. But I believe his family moved to Edinburgh after 1934, to Bellevue Street. My mother particularly could remember the family as we lived directly opposite in Bellevue Road. David was about the same age as my late brother. David's father was a violinist with several well-known classical orchestras and his mother was a cellist.
51 Curtis Moner from NYC, USA: I was the biggest Man From Uncle fan as a kid. My best friend Tim and I would make up dramatic scenarios of international intrigue and act out our parts to perfection. Due to my blonde hair and the black turtleneck I forced my Mom to buy, I was always Illya, while Tim served as a dead ringer for Solo. One day we found a dead snake and decided to form our own spy agency that we called, appropriately, S.N.A.K.E. which stood for Security Nation Association with Karate Enforcement.
50 anthony purvin from west midlands: i watched the man from uncle on the bbc every thursday night whitch i loved when will they be on region 2 so i can watch all over again
49 Mark Scheur from New Jersey, U.S: As a kid it was the best show. Since I have blond hair guess who I played? In my opinion the owners to the rights should realize that the public would love to see this hit the big screen! How about Bill Pullman and Kyle MacKlaclin in the leading roles!
48 richard from UK: I remember living and breathing Man From Uncle when I was a young kid. I was always quite shy, so I identified best with Ilya. I have just purchased the complete series DVDs. I still love it as much today!
47 Jeffrey Latawiec from Southwest Desert: James Bond was the essence of "ruthless cool" in the sixties. Then along came Napoleon Solo, sexy, cool, competent, vulnerable, and deadly. Illya was the perfect counterpart to Solo. He was serious, intelligent, and absolutely capable. The only phenomenon to rival the Beatles in the sixties, the U.N.C.L.E. made a place for me to go with my friends and truly live the life of spying after every weeks show. We would get our toy uncle guns and go out and battle the minions of T.he H.ierarchy for R.emoval of U.ndesirables and S.ubjucation of H.umanity; And we only had to go as far as our backyards. These are the fondest memories I have of childhood play, and I truly miss the days of such sublime innocence and so much intense pleasure. I knew how much I liked it then, and I knew I could never replace what UNCLE gave me once it was gone. Damn the movement of Time. It is cruel.
Welcome back men from The UNITED NETWORK COMMAND FOR LAW AND ENFORCEMENT. You were missed!
46 jay from elsaesser: one birthday i got solo's rifle detach pistol it was the bomb - i wish i still had it
45 C from America: I suppose the truth should come out. I broke up with my girlfriend at the time by claiming I was an apprentice UNCLE agent. At the time, it seemed like a good idea. The crazy thing, she believed me. And eventually, over a span of years, I did indeed become part of the IC. Oh, and I won't be visiting this site anymore.
44 Keith Dagnall from wirral: Loved the programme first time round. Always argued with best school mate Paul Byrne as to who was Napoleon when we played, but was glad to be Illya, (he was so cool)
43 Joe Posner from San Jacinto, CA: I was lucky growing up in Palos Verdes Estates, Ca, in the 60s.
Many movie and TV people lived there, and many shows were shot there.
Around 1965, a buddy knocked on my door one afternoon. "Joe, they're shooting "Man from UNCLE" at Bluff Cove." That was about a block from my house.
Jumping on our bikes, Tommy and I raced down the street.
When we got there we saw Robert Vaughn and David McCallum shooting a scene, over and over, of them riding up and down a dirt path in a jeep.
There was no security, so we hung around for hours.
During the lunch break, McCallum hid in his trailer, parked nearby, while Vaughn had lunch with the crew.
I overheard a crew guy saying that McCallum's beautiful wife Jill Ireland (later Charles Bronsons' wife)was in there with him, so the "hiding Out" made sense.
At school the next day, Tommy and I were a big hit with our classmates as we re-told our
encounters with the Men from Uncle.
I no longer recall what episode it was.
As a boy who had been living in boring Cincinnati, Ohio only a few years before, living in a neighborhood where they shot
hit TV shows was an incredible thrill.
My "UNCLE" encounter was one of the highlights of my childhood.
42 Matilda from Sthlm, Sweden: My favorite moment from The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is when David McCallum appears in the show...(Just kidding...well, it's almost true, I just love him!)
Anyway, I love the humor, the action, the girl-obsessed Napoleon Solo and of course the handsome, smart, russian Illya Kuryakin!
I can't understand that I love them and I'm only (and then I mean only) 14 years old! Whatever, love Matilda
41 judy stower from Watford Herts: The Man from UNCLE. Oh what memories - The Arabian affair on of the best - Illya and his 'silly little girl' comment - one of the few moment that Illya showed emotion! Its interesting watching re runs - I never knew any were in colour (most people watched in b and w in the 60,s)
40 Michael from Berlin: My favourite scene was the appearance of Nancy Sinatra in an Uncle-Episode.
39 Cath from London: I thought that the Man From Uncle was fantastic and I'm only 18 - surely that proves that it appeals to all ages and so you should bring it back! I loved every minute I saw, I don't think I've ever laughed so hard in my life.
38 Cara from Florida: There was an episode where Ilya was hung out in the desert sun and got a really bad sunburn. Napolean made some smart comment about how red looks good on him.
37 Elaine Lennon from Ireland: Robert Towne's script for THE DOVE AFFAIR is hilarious. Ricardo Montalban's stomach problems and his fear of teenagers makes him one of the funniest characters in the entire series while June Lockhart is truly a woman of pathos. A brilliant episode.
36 Maude Waverly from London: I seem to be younger than a great majority of fans and I didn't see the show the first time around but I'd love to see it now.
As for my favourite moments, can I just say David McCallum in One Spy Too Many. I'm sure every female fan knows exactly what I'm talking about.
35 Donald from Illinois: I love the Man From Uncle. I used to watch on TNT some time ago. I too have the music from FSM and getting ready to order Vol 2. My favorite episode is The Alexender The Great Affair parts 1 & 2. Especially the scene were Solo uses his feet to stop the pendulum from slicing him in two and the fight sequence with the big guy in part two. I love Gerald Fried scores in all the episode he composed for. Even though I was born a few months after the show was cancelled I appreciate the style of the show. Something thats missing from today's TV. I would like to find all of the UNCLE movies. I know they sell them in the UK on DVD. If anyone has them on tape please let me know. Channel D out!
34 Dave from Rhode Island: Favorite show of the 60's.
I loved the ethnic names,(Delgrovia), cooky titles (The Gazebo in the Maze Affair), and odd weapons (a pen which "homogenizes the brain" when placed on the cranium.)
Gone for good, I'm afraid.
33 colin watson from cumbernauld.scotland u.k: it is long over due that the british establishment gave david mccallum a knighthood
32 Rosemary from Kettering: As with all UNCLE fans, Thursday night was the best! I remember particularly taking my UNCLE membership card and getting cheapter entry to see the films at the cinema. Illya was my favourite and still is. I remember a sea of Illyas on our desk lids at school everytime we raised them to get our books! Please keep on showing a wider number of the episodes, not just the same ones repeated all the time.
31 Jimmy Keary from Ireland: L loved the Man from Uncle. I always wanted to be Illya. He was always shinnying up drainpipes and stuff - a friend of mine and I used to pretend to be Napoleon and Illya and have fist fights and shoot outs with invisible THRUSH agents. Marvellous memories!
If NORMAN GORDON from London contacts me at jimkeary@eircom.net, I have a first season episode on video 'The Green Opal Affair'
30 norman gordon from LONDON: the MAN FROM UNCLE was and still is the ultimate 60's
experience.
I remember the shadowy figure
appearing and superspy Napoleon Solo with his gun,
through the bullet proof glass,it shattering after being shot at, and the words
".........AFFAIR" COOL OR WHAT!!
I wish I could see some first
season episodes again ,as opposed to 2nd and the"diabolical" 3rd season
29 Sandra Howells from Wales U.K.: Great to find this site and discover I'm not alone after all these years in my enjoyment of UNCLE.My favourite was and is Napoleon.Have started collecting the books and videos. Wish they would show all of the first black and white series. My favourite episode is the Deadly Quest Affair. I vividly remember discussing Thursday night episodes the next day at school with my friends
28 steve from london: I have always loved this show, my favourite is the two-parter with Joan Crawford called the Five Daughters Affair.
27 aileen cairns from Edinburgh: I gave up girl guides in the 60's to watch U.N.C.L.E.on thursday nights. Illya is my favourite and he's still as sexy today as he was then. I think david McCallum is originally from Edinburgh and boy do I wish he still lived here. I've just got digital TV and was over the moon to see The Man from U.N.C.L.E. every day (I've even been getting up early to watch it). It's funny but I can remember some of the episodes quite clearly from all these years ago. My all time favourite is just about to be shown The Arabian affair.
26 Frank Bunts from New York City: In "The Pop Art Affair", the villain's art gallery had pictures from the LA gallery Comara. Many were made by me and I still have some of them. I was in the original credits.
Frank Bunts
25 Kay from Glasgow: I loved this show in he sixties and I've always thought of Thursday nights as UNCLE nights. The banter and rapport between Napoleon and Illya is still fresh and entertaining. Napoleon was my favourite then and he still is.
24 mr a fearnley from rochdale lancs: the mfu was my favourite programe as a youngster back in the sixties and i am really enjoying the reruns.
23 Bob Pitt from South Australia: When I was 7 years old I wanted to be Napoleon Solo. Now I find myself in my mid-forties, watching UNCLE repeats, and I STILL want to be Napoleon Solo. (My girlfriend wants me to be Illya Kuryakin.)
22 Albert E Ford from Yeovil, Somerset: No one particular favorite episode. I just love them all. Great entertainment and brings back so many memories of my younger days. Sure I have an UNCLE badge, somewhere!
21 Hazel Fort from Bury LancashireEngland: My favourite moment from MFU comes in the Arabian Affair when Illya says to the girl that it is her flapping mouth that puts him off. Way to go!
20 Sarah from England: I love The Man from UNCLE. In my opinion it's the best spy programme ever. I just wish I was around in the 60's when it first came out.
My fav episode is probably The Her Master's voice affair.
I've seen David McCallum and Robert Vaughn in other productions and I think they're both great.
19 Joel Davis from Los Angeles, CA: while it's true i grew up with the MFU, i've never forgotten it as my all time favorite show. i have a real badge from the show, when i moved to CA i mananged to get hold of one of the pen communicators, and in about a month, i'm going to get a heavy resin cast (no moving parts) duplicate of the U.N.C.L.E. pistol. you can find all these things if you look hard enough on the web sites. there are only a zillion of them. i'm also a freelance writer and am writing U.N.C.L.E. novels which are going to be published and distributed at U.N.C.L.E. conventions. watch for them. Channel D out.
18 Chris.Greenwood from Blackpool: I`ve been a fan of the series since`64. My brother and I had the guns, badges etc,and still look for merchandise to collect now. We would like to know how to obtain one of the i.d.cards one used to send for. Many thanks for rekindling a lot of fond memories.
17 john weaver from london: I turned 50 this year, and at the time of the first series I was 12 and watching these repeats of MFU on Granada brings back fond memories.
Not only was this my most favourite programme but the early black and white series was the best.
16 Carlos Dias from São Paulo- Brazil: Fantastic Show and the best, congratulations for Mr.Sam Rolfe, the creator of this success.
15 Darryl Ransom from Ightham, Kent. UK: I was always fascinated by the sound Illy's gun made. Everybody elses made loud "bang bang pee-ooww" sounds. whilst Illya's birdcage silenced P38 short and to the point.
14 Cal from UK: Thanks so much for showing us some more Man from U.N.C.L.E. It was especially good to see the original pilot episode - fascinating to see how the show developed as it went along.
More soon please!
13 Sarah Tilling from Cheshire: I love The Man From U.N.C.L.E even though I am only 14!!! I think Illya is extremely gorgeous!!!
12 Kath from Lancashire: I was a teenage fan in the 60's and all I wanted to see then was Illya,(now I remember why - he was gorgeous!) but watching UNCLE again now I can appreciate the whole "spy spoof" lightness of it all. Napoleon and Illya really were a great team because they were such a contrast to each other. I think series 3 was the best of the 4. Thanks for showing it again.
11 Becky from UK: I am thoroughly hooked on this programme! It is so very witty and there is such a rapport between Illya Kuryakin, Napoleon Solo and Mr Waverly. I'm cheering every time they knock down a THRUSH agent!
10 sylvia burdon from london: I remember watching The Man From Uncle in the 60's, and loved it, as any teenage girl would. What strikes me about it now is how funny it is, I suppose you have to be an adult to appreciate that. And of course, Illya Kuryakin is as gorgeous now as he was then!
9 Rosemary Raine from Kettering Northants: Thank you so much granada for showing my all time favourite show. I too watched in the 60s on thursday nights -never realised it was in colour until it was repeated much later! I have stayed faithful to the dynamic duo, but the beautiful David McCallum is still my favourite. My friends and I from school joined the mfu fan club, which entitled you to cheap cinema tickets for the films - happy days!
8 David Tyas from Worcester: Liked the program so much i joined the fan club and recived by 'uncle' card much to the concern of my children when they found it 30 yrs later and thought their dad was spy.
7 Kath from The Wirral: I've always enjoyed the Man from U.N.C.L.E. and found it to be a light hearted action/adventure series that showed that even during times of uncertainty such as the cold war era that people working together could do increadible things! It's great to see it back on telly!!
6 Ann from Glasgow: I loved 'man from u.n.c.l.e' from when it was first shown in the 60s. Illya Kuryakin was my favourite character then and still is. But now I can appreciate the chemistry between the two leading men, the wit, the action and the music.
And watching these re runs closely I've suddenly realised what a lot of witty lines Alexander Waverly has.
5 Jill from Wirral: I love the chemistry between the two stars
4 Sarah Harmes from Brighton: Wow. thank you so much for bringing uncle back.
I started watching it when the films were being shown on channel 5, a few months ago.
I'm among the new generation of fans.
I'm only 15 and absolutely love the Man from UNCLE. I also have a king size crush on Illya Kuryakin.
3 Kathryn Martin from Maidstone Kent: Thank you to whoever was responsible for bringing back Uncle to our screens! I have had a fascination for this show for many years and have enjoyed the re-runs enormously.
By all accounts it was a very happy to show to work on and this definitely comes through in the performances of the two lead actors. more please!!!
2 Neil Davies from Wirral: While my friends all seemed to want to be Napoleon Solo I always wanted to be Illya Kuryakin. Don't know why. Perhaps it points to something important in my psychological makeup! Whatever the reason, I grew up running around the street, hiding behind garden walls, firing my plastic man from uncle gun and speaking into an old style fountain pen with a plunger (closest I could get to the radio pen). Watching it again now brings back those memories but I've also been surprised at how witty it could be and how well they did things on what must have been a limited budget week in and week out. Along with Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea, The Man From UNCLE was a must see and has now become so again in our household (for me and my 11 year old son anyway!). Thanks for the memories.
1 Jacquelin Van de Poll from: The mix of action, tongue-in-cheek humour, the chemistry between the two main characters and, of course, the gorgeous, sexy, blonde Russian by the name of Illya Kuryakin . . .
