38 Winifred from Tyne & Wear: Loved this series and missed the re runs as we don't have satellite TV.
It had everything, witty scripts, beautiful photography, wonderful music, visually attractive locations, humour, pathos and best of all a wonderful actor who made Harry O so unforgettable.
It's Time Warner Brothers got their act together, brought it out of the archives and published the DVDs.
37 alan from worcester uk: in 1978 my first ever video recording of any programme was harry o on my philips schools vcr how i wish for that series now on any format missed mr jannson very much
36 nick from Balham,London: Used to love Harry O in the 70's,I was about 14...used to come on Friday nights and Farrah Fawcett was his neighbour on the beach!Loved the theme music too..shame it only went out for two years.Would like to see it on British tv again
35 Cloudy from Mississippi: I just bought the entire series from ioffer. I have loved every minute of it. Fine series with a top-notch star and supporting staff. The Lester episodes are wonderful. The episode where Manny dies is truly sad. Farrah is great. Harry is funny as heck! In the episode where Spencers Dad dies, Harry is trying to get info out of a nurse about a Dr. He's practically begging. She asks him why she should tell him anything and he replies, "Because my feet hurt". lol Fine guest stars too. Never be another one like David J.!
34 Chris Copp from Exeter England: Jerry Thorpe had the vision and David Janssen brought it to life, Jerry developed my two favourite 70's shows: Kung Fu and Harry O...both were quirky and totally fresh and original...not flashy or shallow....character and plot were so imaginative
33 Joe Posner from San Jacinto, CA: "Harry 0" is my favorite TV detective show of all time.
As a young writer just out of USC
cinema, I got a chance to get to
know series creator Howard Rodman, as well as meet David Janssen, in my attempt to sell my teleplay "Glide Path" to the series.
I'll never forget meeting with Rodman at his home one morning, where he made us blueberry pancakes and gave me advice on how to improve my teleplay. What a gentleman!
I met briefly with David Janssen, when he was holding court with his buddies at The Daisy restaurant in Beverly Hills. Although he didn't know me from adam, he was warm and friendly, sharing a few moments of his time with me. What a classy guy!
Although I ultimately didn't sell my teleplay to the show, I will always have fond memories of the show, Howard Rodman and David Janssen.
"Harry 0," Howard R and David J:
R.I.P.
32 james nelson from kentucky: i loved the show where there was a blind witness. great show
31 Bill from Buffalo: Harry O , Is Now , and always has been , my favorite TV show of all time. I love the Music , The Heart And The Moral Code Of This Show. Why Is It So Hard For 'Them' To Put This Out On Dvd????????
30 Diane from La.: Harry O was & still is my favorite. You can go on the internet & buy both seasons of Harry O. Just type in Harry O/TV series. You wont regret it. Am so sorry Janssen left us at an early age.
29 janet kent from atlanta, texas: i loved harry o. i was 20 years old when it came on and my sister-in-law and i waited eagerly for thursday night each week so we could watch it. does anybody know if it's available on dvd? i've told my 23 year old daughter about this show many times and she wants to see it. would love to have the pleasure of watching it with her. if someones knows where i could get it please post on this site.
28 Kelli N. from Texas: I still remember watching "Harry-O" when I was a kid after the local news on CBS. It would come on around 10:30 at night, and I loved staying up watching it during the summer, and on days off from school. I saw the pilot episode on cable the other night, and it reminded me of how good a show it was.
27 Dave Korenic from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin: I loved this show and I am trying to find a video or DVD of the Harry O episode "Mortal Sin", which I believe aired in October of 1974. The reason I am trying to find this is that while on vacation in San Diego with my family in 1974, I stumbled upon the shooting of a scene from this episode, behind the Hanalei hotel, where we were staying. The setting was of the murder scene in the show and I was fortunate enough to be in the crowd scene behind David Janssen. I saw the episode on TV when it originally aired and even took a Polaroid photo off the TV of myself and David Janssen! Unfortunately the Polaroid disintegrated over the years. I was 14 years old at the time, and now at 46, it would be a thrill for my kids to see me in this show.
26 Pamela Harvey-Declouette from St. Martinville, La: I was 20 years old when "Harry O was broadcast on television. As young as I was then I could relate to the world weary middle age private detective who saw poetry as a tool to justify the kaos and cruelty in his life. Without a doubt this program was one of the finest detective shows I have ever seen. I don't think any program of this genre has measured up since then. I am surprised with the world wide appeal of "Harry 0" that it is not appeared on DVD yet. That's too bad because any film student could learn a lot from this production. My appreciation to the late Howard Rodman with his brilliant writing and the great direction of Jerry Thorpe. Last but not least the fantatsic acting of the late David Janssen, Henry Darrow and Anthony Zerbe. My favorite episodes: The Mysterious Case of Lester and Dr. Fong, Elegy for a Cop, Smile Jenny, You're Dead and The Confetti People.
25 Clive hayward from Sutton Coldfield uk: The music... not only was the scriptwriting superb but the haunting music has stayed with me over 20 years. A great show never bettered!
24 LARRY TIGERMAN from K.C., MO.: I happened to catch a movie David J. Did on a satellite station called b-mania...he played a sheriff in a southern town who ends up with a werewolf as the killer!
I think it was called moon wolf or something. (it wasn't his best work!)
Any way, it got me to missing harry o as well as ome of the tv movies he did. I have the two novels lee hayes wrote with harry o. Wish he would have written more. I think i will re-read them in the near future.
Count me among those who miss
David janssen who died too young.
Larry
23 Phillip Vaughn from Kentucky: Don't remember the episode by name, but it ended with David Janssen walking away from the camera down a beach, with voice-over of several lines from a Rudyard Kipling poem. Impressive, as was the entire series.
22 Mike Howard from Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire: Thank you for screening one of the few TV series I've ever watched regularly. It's been a long wait, but I've now filled our Sky Planner with hours of television poetry.
21 Dan Doherty from Glyndon, MD: Is Harry O currently being aired?
Thanks
20 S Hoffman from Pendleton, NY: In APB Harry Orwell, our hero breaks out of jail. But he needs a car to get around so he goes to his mechanic to try to get one. Spencer says "Harry, do you know you're Wednesday's Child? and Harry says "Is that the one who's full of woe?" And Spencer says "No that's Thursday's child, Wednesday's child has a long way to go" Harry says, "I know, that's why I need a car to get there" Cracks me up every time I hear it.
19 Michael o' Sullivan from Waterford, Ireland: One of my favourite episodes
was when Harry was arrested in Paris, and said "there is a lot to see in Paris but you dont see much from the back of a paddy wagon".
18 Nick Thomas from Iowa: Being younger at the time, I do remmber his training.Lot's of jogging.Paid off,he ran down more than one bad-guy. T.V.LAND need's to get MORE than it's LITE line-up's. Man that or another Channel to carry some real 'adult classic's this show (Harry O) for sure!
17 Deby from Cambridgeshire via USA: It has been wonderful the past few weeks seeing Harry O BROADCAST! The good natured self-depreciation and insults tossed between Manny and Harry were the originators of so many private detectives with sidekick combos - Rockford Files, Magnum PI, etc. Harry O was an original.
16 Sharon from Aberdeen: Top moment - Harry soliciting a push from his two would-be tails after his ancient car breaks down in the middle of the street yet again
15 Michael from Davis, Calif. usa: I loved this show. Greatest detective series ever. I felt lousy when it was cancelled. Apparently, it does not rerun on US tv anymore.
14 Eve from UK: Harry O may be my new favorite show. Pleeease show again once it ends - I only discovered it a few weeks ago!
13 Deby Robinson from Seattle(Now in ENGLAND): I was SO EXCITED to see that Harry O was alive and well and being broadcast on this station when I moved into the UK last month!! I had previously seen only poor quality tapes of this incredible show!! THANKS!
12 Craig Pierce from Portsmouth: Great to see Harry O back on our screens. David Janssen is excellent as ever. l don't remember this show as well as other P.I. shows from the 70's, so it's like seeing it for the first time.
11 Stephen Davies from Pontypridd: David Janssen was superb as Harry Orwell. A man who tackled crime not only with humour but dignity as well. What also made the series such a success in my eye is the fact that it had realistic storylines and guest actors combined with action packed moments and indepth characterization. Television simply does not make them like that anymore.
10 Jack Waters from Florida: End of season one, after the death of Manny Quinlan. Harry buys a bottle of booze and has the bartender place it behind the bar, instructing him to give a drink to those patrons who he thought were good people. On Manny.
"What do I do when it's empty?"
Harry shrugs. "Nobody lives forever."
Classic. David Janssen was one of the best. Lost two ultra-cool guys in 1980 -- Janssen and McQueen.
9 Gary Gillies from Scotland: Harry O had it all, David Janssen, great acting, scripts, also an atmosphere that you just cant put your finger on, its something special that happens once and a while that just made the show that big bit special!
8 Tim Woolford from Hatfield, Herts: At last, Harry O back on TV after 20 years. David Janssen is perfect in the role and the voice overs that give us a view into his thinking really help to make the series. Its a real tragedy that he died so young.
7 Nigel Mather from Merseyside: Many thanks for Showing 'Harry O' in the original order of transmission. Janssen was a wonderfully soulful performer, imbuing the episodes with a poetic and slightly tragic quality, drawing upon his persona from 'The Fugitive'. I think it is a pity, however, that the Henry Darrow character was killed off and the series relocated from San Diego. Along with 'The Rockford Files', 'Harry O' is the greatest of 70s American detective shows.
6 Peter Mirczuk from Wetherby: It's great to see David Janssen back on the small screen. I loved him on the Fugitive in the 60's every since been my favorite actor. Harry O has wonderful moments such as when the women fall for him and you always wonder is this the one who will share his beach pad and live happily ever after.
It's sad that David Janssen died so young(same age as I am now).
5 CaroleCJTerry from Michigan, USA: You folks in the UK are really
lucky to be getting Harry O reruns. I have all the episodes on tape (although
some are edited and thus my tapes are missing scenes) but
I would love to see Harry show
up again on U.S. TV. Janseen
is marvelous in this role. According to Howard Rodman, the shows creator, Janssen WAS Harry, and knew more about him the Rodman did. Love the show.
4 Ian Fryer from Leeds: Thank you so much for bringing Harry O back to the screen.
David Janson's unique presense tells you everything you need to know about Harry from the moment he arrives. I just love the idea of a private eye who can't chase anyone and catches the bus everywhere.
This marvellous series is just as good as I remembered it from the seventies.
3 wayne blundell from liverpool: I have been waiting over fifteen years for the return of this all time great detective series. David Janssen is at his best as the lead character.
The series as I can remember has some wonderful moments and the use of over speech by Janssen adds to those moments ...
Its good to have you back Harry !
2 Peter Weatherley from Camberley, Surrey: David Janssen made Harry O the best of the private detectives. The hang dog look, the world weary persona and the determination to resolve each case. He was made for the part and gives an excellent performance throughout. One of my favourite moments is from the second pilot "Smile Jenny, you're dead" when he watches Jenny during a photo shoot while waiting to give her the news that her husband has been murdered. There is no dialogue but his face says it all. A subtle, under-rated and hugely talented actor. In Harry O he demonstrates the qualities that made him a star, one that some of us will always remember.
1 giulio robertson from brighton: Harry Orwell is out there on his own, fighting against the clock , he is a pre Jim Rockford, even down to the beach location, its a shame that it only ran for two seasons, nevertheless its a great pi TV show, & its so good to see Harry O once again after all these years, I pay homage to the late David Janson.
