The Beiderbecke Affair Classic TV Show |
James Bolam searches for the illusive records of Bix Beiderbecke. On the way he and his girlfriend Jill solve all manner of mysteries, causing a little surreal mayhem on the way.The Beiderbecke Affair Fan Tributes6 David from Sunderland: Possibly best tv serial ever('Affair' and 'Connection' particularly). Barbara Flynn; and the two policemen (Sean Scanlan and George Costigan) outstanding - "In your report; don't mention the ginger-nuts".Too much choice of fine dialogue to mention. 5 Claire from Bath: This is THE pinnacle of British TV. As an aspiring writer, Plater's work is always great to turn to for inspiration. Part film-noir pastiche, part comedy of errors, part social commentary, part irony-laden one-liners. Beautiful stuff. 4 gail broadhurst from worcester: This show was so brilliant. Casting spot on and the characters and plot are ever so slightly surreal. Absolutely fantastic. The one liners alone make it worth watching, but seeing Trevor and Jill and their allies pit their wits against the anally retentive establishment figures like Mr Wheeler and Sgt Hobson..... a joy to behold. 3 Allen Forster from Cornwall GB: James Bolam, England's finest ever actor. Dry sense of humour - wonderful stuff. Allen Forster 2 Richard O'Connor from Manchester: Hello Sir, Hello Miss. I can't think of any one moment in particular that stands out as the whole trilogy is so uniformly brilliant. 1 Dave from Bristol: Great writing, stellar cast and good locations made these series a real winner. I am not sure if I am correct in thinking this but I seem to remember another Alan Plater comedy called Oliver's Travels which was made much later but still had some of the joys that the Beiderbecke series had in bucketloads. The character of Hobson, played by Dominic Jephcott was perhapsm the most memorable for me. Beware the Platinum Blonde... |
