With its crew of approximately 430, the Enterprise battles aliens, megalomanical computers, time paradoxes, psychotic murderers, and even Genghis Khan! Star Trek Fan Tributes2 Katie from St. Augustine, FL: I watched "Star Trek" on SciFi when I was a teenager. I remember "Star Trek" when I was a ten-year-old girl in 1997. I am twenty-two. My older sister was born in January 1985. I was born in January 1987. "Star Trek" is a good TV show.1 Joe Posner from San Jacinto, CA: When "Star Trek" debuted in 1966, my high school buddies and I were instant fans. By 1968, we decided to create a tribute to our show. My buddy Tom raised money and I wrote a spoof script called "Far Trek," a 30 minute show chronicling the adventures of Captain Quirk and the Starship Surprise. We built sets and made costumes and props, casting classmates in the key roles. As the screenwriter and friend of the director(Tom), I got to play Quirk. We shot the film in two days in the summer of 68, in 16 millimeter. We invited several "Star Trek" cast members to its debut at Palos Verdes High in the fall of 1969; James Doohan(Scotty) and his wife actually showed up. Doohan's wife was "Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry's secretary. My classmates and I were invited to Paramount Studios to watch "Star Trek" being shot. Wow! Arriving at Paramount a few weeks later, half of us watched Shatner(Kirk) film a scene; the other group saw Nimoy(Spock) perform. I was in the Nimoy group. Later, between filming, we were given a tour of the "Trek" sets. On the bridge, we were all given a chance to sit in the Captain's chair. What a magical day! I believe "Far Trek" was the first student made spoof of "Star Trek." Unfortunately, all known copies of "Far Trek" have been lost in time and space, but what memories I still have! |
