28 Graham Heap from Preston: Hylda's tv series stand alone as triumphs of script and performance. On the subject of Blackpool; 'They have to have them hallucinations, they daren't let it go dark!'

25 Michael from Manchester: Hello all,
I love this woman!
I was born and brought up 1.4 miles from Hylda's birth place in Farnworth.
My grandmother brough me up, she was 8 years younger than Hylda, but my Nana was very Hylda...I think a lot of us recognise elderly relations in Hylda. I have just aquired all the Hylda Baker DVD's and have rolled around laughing...on my own, by myself,....with nobody with me!
I have set up a fan club, which is called...Hylda Baker She Knows Y`Know the link is available on this site
24 Ben Wilson from Nottingham: I count my self lucky I discovered Hylda Baker considering I was only 2 when she died.
This woman Is a star and it makes makes me sick to the stomach knowing about her sad demise, dying a forgotton star.
I am an avid TV Viewer and I know Im right when I say no other woman in comedy has been so funny and unique. I was not suprised to find out she was something of a gay icon!
But never mind being a gay icon, the woman must be offically regarded as a national treasure!
Us fans need to go our there and make sure Hylda gets the respect and recognition she failed to get in death. I am so sad to know the good British spirit failed her in her time of need.

Just watched the first episode of this great and very funny show again yesterday morning and realised that John Barrett who played Nellie's father, also played her Dad in the first episode of Nearest and Dearest in which he died and left Nellie and Eli the factory.
The things that happen on TV!
5 Christopher Tansley from Bradford UK: I remember Nellie pledge with great affection. Hylda's acting was truly remarkable. The one that spings to mind is when she shows someone the door and say's "And never dorken my dark steps agen!"
4 Gina Reeves from Nottingham: I have been a great fan of this funny lady for years now. I remember seeing her on TV as a child and loved it. I have the book on her life which is a great read for her fans , written by Jean Fergusson from LAST OF THE SUMMER WINE fame , Jean toured her one woman show and when I saw it she was fantastic, I met her backstage one day and she is such a lovely person , we shared lots of memories of Hylda and she signed my book.
