It was the best day of Arthur Crabtree's life when his final child left home married. sadly his bliss was short lived as for one reason or another each one of his four children returned to not only invade his home but also his sanity.No Place Like Home Fan Tributes6 steve from seattle: used to watch it as a student in the UK in the 80's5 Kath from Lincoln, England: I watched this series through its whole run in the eighties - now watching it again on DVD. My favorite was son-in-law Raymond ('Homeless, jobless, and gormless', as Arthur once described him...) 4 martinrobinson from manchester: I have always enjoyed the show , especially the scenes in the greenhouse with Trevor and Arthur and the very dubious sherry! I would love to recreate the scene in my garden shed - if I could find room ! 3 Chris Mezzolesta from Mentor, Ohio, USA: I was lucky enough to have attended a taping of NO PLACE LIKE HOME at the BBC Television Centre in June of 1987. My wife and I were on our honeymoon and were staying with our friend Michael Sharvell-Martin in London. Luckily "Trevor" was only on film that week so Michael sat with us in the studio bleachers as Bill Gaunt introduced us to the crowd in the pre-taping warmup (as did the comedian who was on before him). The show was very entertaining and it was fascinating to see how they kept the energy going over multiple takes of a scene (though I don't remember a huge number of takes). Before the taping my wife and I were introduced to Pat Garwood and other cast members, and afterward we met the director (Robin Nash??) and all convened in the BBC Club for drinks. I still have a copy of that episode's script around here somewhere :-) Truly a memorable time. 2 Chris Wright from Southport, Merseyside: I didn't find this series very funny when it first came out. Now my children are the same age as Beryl & Arthur's I can relate to it and find the programme absolutely hilarious. 1 Phil Palmer from Darlington,England: I remember the show first time around on BBC1 in the 80s watching it again takes me back to when i was a kid oh! easy times!!, now my wife watches it this time round you always get a good laugh brill!!! |
