4 David Stanley from Farmington, New Mexico, USA: Happy Days was started from an episode of Love American Style. This episode turned into the pilot for the Happy Days TV series. This happened at about the same time as the movie American Graffiti was released in 1973. After the turbulent 60s and the Nixon watergate era of the early 70s, most Americans were drawn to this show as the wave of 50s nostalgia took over.

The first one or two seasons were filmed in a closed studio with an overdubbed laugh track, but afterwards went to the live audience format for the remainder of the series. Also, the first few seasons stuck closely with period sets and costumes, but as the series progressed, allowed many characters to wear clothes and hair more in keeping with the late 70s and early 80s.

This show also spawned the phrase "jump the shark" denoting an episode or an event in a TV series when the show took a turn for the worse. In the case of Happy Days, this "jump the shark" episode took place when Fonzi literally jumped a shark in the open water with a pair of waterskis. After that episode, the ratings and popularity of Happy Days fell until the show's cancellation in 1984.

Happy Days also spun off Laverne and Shirley (very good show) and Joanni Loves Chachi (very bad show).

3 Susan from New York: I didn't notice that Happy Days lasted for ten years. Happy Days began in 1974 and ended in 1984. My favorite character was Ritchie. My other favorite was Joanie. I watched it on WGN. It's on at 8 a.m. on weekdays.

2 Fran from London: One of my all time fav comedies that no matter how many times you watch it, it remains fresh and hilarious.
I loved all the characters but my fav was Potsie, he was gorgeous and he still is as lovely today, in fact they all are and what a voice!!

1 Irene from California: This tv show was truly inspiring to me, i wish it would still run in regular television. it brings fond memories.
